API SPEC 7-1 Tapered junk mill

The tapered grinding shoe is mainly used to repair the deformed fish roof or trim the curling caused by the casing at the coupling of various tools during running in, as well as the burr and flash caused by perforation, and clean up the mineral crystals and other hard sundries retained on the well wall, so as to restore the drift diameter.
Conical grinding shoes are used to mill the protruding casing inner wall and the crystals and other impurities retained on the casing inner wall by the alloy on the cone. The cylindrical part plays a role of centralization, and the milled debris is brought back to the surface by the well flushing fluid.
