Natural gamma ray can only identify the lithology of the formation, but in the construction of horizontal wells, it cannot determine the formation in time and effectively. If the drilling tool cannot indicate the formation in time after drilling out, it will seriously affect the drilling construction period and the improvement of the drilling rate. 
Azimuth gamma is to effectively shield the measurement area of the gamma sensor, clarify the detection direction, and can record the gamma measurement values in any radial direction of 360° around it in real time, especially the upper and lower gamma values.
Geological engineers can not only distinguish the lithology characteristics of the upper and lower interfaces of the target layer, lock the target layer, and adjust the well trajectory in time to ensure that the drill bit has been drilling in the target layer. Moreover, it can be combined with engineering parameters to calculate the stratum dip angle and the thickness of the target layer in each interval
